Dynamic Aviation Helicopters Interview

By Interviewer at 10/03/07 18:59

Name of your website?

Dynamic Aviation Helicopters

Your name?

Ben Hacking

Your Location (city, etc)

Vernal

Please give us a short summary of your website?

We are a Helicopter service based in Vernal, Utah. We provide Safe, Dependable helicopter charter and "LONG LINE" cargo services for a variety of Customers anywhere in the Western United States.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Well, more and more people are logging on to the Internet to find information and businesses while fewer and fewer are checking the phone book. To be successful in any business, you have to be where the potential customers are going to look.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

I've been involved with web design and SEO for close to five years, but I took on Dynamic Aviation Helicopters about six months ago.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

It's the name of the business

What makes it different from other, similar offerings?

With chartering a helicopter, we are quite unique in that we can trailer our helicopter to a job site which typically will save you $1000's of dollars in flight time. Also, the hiller helicopter is designed to be able to land in tight locations and can carry loads between 600 and 800 lbs.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

My boss said that if I can get the top ranking in Google for the keyword phrase "Helicopter Service Utah" he would buy me lunch.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

It's been like a garden, you put in the most hours, sweat, blood, and tears into tilling, getting rid of rocks, planting seeds, watering and fertilizing. Then, as long as no freakish floods, fires, earthquakes or other acts of God come by and generally ruins the whole experience, eventually you might have something to eat at the end of the summer. Then, the next year, you hope you've learned enough to do better the next year.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

I didn't realize it would get easier to do once I figured out what I was doing. When I got started, I pulled a lot of my hair out every time something went wrong. I've broken enough stuff now though that I know how to fix some of the problems that tend to come up.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

No, this site is for my boss. He has one helicopter and doesn't plan to buy any more. Maybe we could charge for referrals if the website takes off.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

The main headache I had was finding a decent hosting company that didn't come up with hidden fees, slow servers, or a hundred other problems.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Learning how to use different programs. I'm a big fan of open source software and there is quite the learning curve that goes along with each new piece of software I have implemented in my websites.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

I try to do a little bit of everything to promote my website. I first design my website for customers and follow that with a little on-site SEO. I link exchange a little, try to make my site interesting enough for people to want to send some links to me. I have quite a few other things I do, but if I told you what they were, I would lose my competitive edge.

What is your website address?
